An Etsy Shop Tuneup

Season's Greetings - Holiday Greeting Card by Jen Kiaba PhotographyDuring the X-Mas rush, your main concerns may not be the state of your online website or shop, right? After all, there are orders to process, ads to run - not to mention you might have to squeeze a little shopping in during your downtime.
Yet no matter how busy you may be, my suggestion is to sneak a little one on one time in with your shop and tidy it up a bit. You know, make it a little more presentable.

How does one do that?

Well, I've been gobbling up the "Etsy Shop Tune-Up" Series from Wonder Thinking. In fact, I have the series delivered every couple of days to my inbox. Part Three really caught my eye:

Part 3 of Your Etsy Shop Tune-Up: Features and Benefits

Features are the positive aspects of your items. Benefits are the reason your buyers care. Buyers want to know "What's in it for me?" and benefits tell them.

People don't buy features; they buy benefits. To sell more, tell people about the benefits of your product.

Are your item descriptions telling buyers about the benefits of your items?

I read that over a couple of times and let it marinate in my brain. Hrmmm...what are the benefits of buying something from my shop? At first I really felt like I was running at a loss, mentally. Is there a benefit to the customer when they own my art? (Yes!!!! Hehehe.)

So I decided to wander the wide world of Etsy and duck into the shops of some of the more successful artists that I admire. At the same time I was also browsing a bit through Twitter to see how artists are talking about their work. I stumbled upon this tweet:

trierstudio
A taxi traverses a busy city street at night 6x6 impasto oil on canvas http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=36328276 #art #etsy

I was intrigued. It's poetic. I could visualize the image in my mind, but I truly wanted to see it. My advice to you is to check out the listing and see how she writes about her art. The listing is chock full of the Benefits of owning this piece.

Oh, and also note that the art has already sold! =)

You are so right about "tuning up" the shop! Of course, having a professional photographer (like you!) around would be a huge benefit! However, looks like January is scheduled for my shop "tune up"!
